Pole Dance Tips

New to pole dance?

That’s ok! We were all new to pole dance once!  It takes courage (and on average 1 year of stalking our social media) before most students get the courage to come in!  One thing they all say?  They should have come in sooner!  So here are some things to help you brave up and come on in!

If you can find a friend to come with you thats great!  But….don’t wait for them.  We pride ourselves on being a friendly place in general and you are sure to make new pole friends!  Usually your friends are just as nervous as you are to try pole dancing. It’s up to you to be the brave one and take one for the team!  Go ahead, just do it!  Then tell them how much fun you had!  You can even make some friends before coming to the studio by adding our student group on facebook!  Don’t worry…it’s private!

After you decide you ARE coming in, take time to look around the website, it will help you get familiar with our classes and the studio.   Take a look at the schedule and find a Pole level 1 Class\ on a day and time you can attend.  It is better if you register online to save your spot, classes can fill up quickly.  You should plan to allow yourself to try a few classes before you decide if pole dance is for you or not.  Keep that in mind when looking at the schedule and planning when to attend!

On the day of your first pole class remember not to wear lotion!  Even if you put it on in the morning it will make the pole slippery and hard to hold on to!  Plan to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled class to get comfortable, meet your instructor and explore the studio!

We most often get asked what to wear! Most of our students start their first class wearing leggings, and bare feet or socks.  You can wear whatever you are most comfortable in!  Shorts work better for most pole dancing classes but for your first few into to pole classes you can wear leggings if you prefer.

What should you expect in your first class?  Our intro to pole dance class teaches an entire routine!  Walking around the pole, sensual body movement, transitions, spins and floor work! That’s a lot!  Most students need to take this class 3 times before moving on to beginners pole dance classes.  Allow yourself to be new to pole dance and keep in mind the first class is the hardest! Don’t place unrealistic expectations on yourself and remind yourself to laugh if you mess up!   It only get’s easier from here!

Here are a few extra tips, just in case!   Pole dance isn’t easy!  It’s hard…..but its fun!   If you have naturally sweaty hands consider purchasing a grip aid product!  We usually have these in the studio. Sweaty hands can also make the pole slippery and hard to hold on to and we want you to have the best experience possible.  You can always ask your instructor to try some grip aid before you buy it!

If you have sensitive knees, or think you might, purchasing and brining a pair to class would be beneficial!  Some of the moves you will learn will take you to the floor and you will need to be on your knees.

FYI  –  The pole spins.   We know…mind. blown.

You will most likely develop a new addiction to heels, hair flips, and pole clothes.  For this…you are welcome.

See ya soon!
